During Babesia microti infections of laboratory-reared Clethrionomys glareolus up to 15% erythrocytes were infected at peak parasitaemia. Intramuscular injection of methylprednisolone 2 days before infection caused the parasitaemia to increase 4-fold and to be much prolonged. In laboratory-reared Lemmus lemmus, infections of B. microti were severe and fatal.
