Trypanosoma (Herpetosoma) lemmi n.sp. from Lemmus lemmus in Norway is described. The bloodstream forms measured on average 31.1 X 1.8 mu m and were therefore longer and wider than T. microti from Microtus agrestis and T. evotomys from Clethrionomys glareolus. The posterior end of the new species was long and pointed and the kinetoplast was generally oval. Stumpy reproductive forms were detected in the blood of laboratory L. lemmus 5 days after infection but parasitaemias were relatively low. Microtus oeconomus could not be infected in the laboratory.
