Stereologic analysis of the rough endoplasmic reticulum in hepatocytes of the regenerating rat liver

Changes in the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) in hepatocytes of the regenerating liver in rats were studied by the stereologic method. The observations showed diminished surface and volume density of the RER during the early hours after hepatectomy. At 24 h after hepatectomy, the surface and volume density of RER recovered to values observed in the control group and after 72 h dilatation of the RER canals was observed.
