In Texas, USA, a moribund Yorkshire terrier with severe respiratory signs and evidence of pathological changes in the lungs died, despite treatment for acute pneumonia and debilitation. Gross lesions were limited to the respiratory tract. Nodules 1.0 mm in diameter were seen in cut surfaces of the lung lobes. Numerous nematode larvae were found in all regions of the lung, as well as a few intact adult worms identified as Filaroides hirthi. Granulomata were present but not always associated with adult worms. Circumstantial evidence suggested that the infection was acquired by eating slugs.
