Yersinia pseudotuberculosis infection in birds

Sporadic cases of the infection were diagnosed PM in four aviary birds from large mixed collections where contamination was possible from wild birds and rodents, and also in a racing pigeon from a loft of about 50 birds. One flock outbreak involving budgerigars, zebra finches and waxbills was controlled by administration of oxytetracycline in the drinking water at 1 g per pint for 5 days. It is concluded that pseudotuberculosis is a relatively common disease of captive birds and, although only sporadic in nature, can cause outbreaks.
