Phase II study of dianhydrogalactitol in malignant glioma

Dianhydrogalactitol (DAG) was evaluated in the treatment of malignant astrocytoma in 14 patients after tumor resection and whole brain radiotherapy of 6000 rad. DAG was given at a dose of 159 mg/m2 i.v. at 21 day intervals beginning 3-9 wk after surgery. Nine patients had subjective responses, but no increase in median survival, in comparison with other therapies, was noted. Toxic effects were mild (mostly leukopenia).
