Observations on the infection of Tilapia leucosticta (Pisces: Cichlidae) with Contracaecum (Nematoda: Heterocheilidae) in Lake Naivasha, Kenya

In 1972-74, 85% of 2,572 Tilapia leucosticta from Lake Naivasha, Kenya, were found to be infected with 3rd-stage Contracaecum larvae at a mean of 9/fish. The larvae were probably those of C. spiculigerum, which was recorded in pelicans and cormorants at the lake. Although the fish were relatively heavily infected, the infection had little effect on their weight.
