Of 11 vaso-vasostomies carried out in 1975 and 1977 to restore fertility in vasectomized men, 7 of the operations were successful. To be considered successful the operation must result with production of an ejaculate of normal composition, with 20 million sperm/ml, 60% of which are mobile and 70% of which are normally formed. Reasons for the failure of vaso-vasostomy include: initial bad ejaculate quality, development of sperm antibodies, faulty operative techniques, innervative disturbances of the vas deferens, and scar formation blocking the vas deferens.
