Altered collagen plays an important role in some diseases. A method is described for quantitation of collagen-induced platelet aggregation. Several factors affected this in vitro determination, and a high degree of standardization is required. Comparison of collagen from different persons must rely on biopsy specimens of identical anatomical structure. The aggregation test must be performed with the same platelet-rich plasma (PRP) because of considerable inter- and intra-individual variation. Standardization reduces the variation to an acceptable level (14%).
