In the patient with lung cancer, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) has limited value in screening for the early lesion, modest value in presaging a successful resecton and considerable value in monitoring the course of disease following resection. CEA is a clinical tool that merits further investigation and has the potential of identifying a lung tumor-specific marker.
