Circular dichroism studies on gold (III) -nucleic acid complexes

Circular dichroism (CD) of the complexes of Au(III) with native and denatured [calf thymus, Micrococcus luteus and Clostridium perfringens] DNA was studied. CD spectra of the nucleic acids become largely distorted in forming complexes with Au(III). The ellipticity of the band maxima decreases along with a red shift. CD studies confirm the base-binding of Au(III) accompanied by the drastic conformational changes of the nucleic acids.
