Six children affected by maternal alcoholism

All of 6 children from newborn to 15 years old of alcoholic mothers were small at birth although their mothers were not underweight. They showed no catch-up in growth despite being offered adequate nutrition by their foster families. Four had congenital abnormalities and at least 4 were mentally retarded.
