Elaboration of proteases, cellulase & chitinase during excystment of Hartmannella culbertsoni

Excystment of H. culbertsoni is accompanied by the secretion of 2 proteases (I and II), cellulase and chitinase. Studies using radioactive cellulose as the substrate revealed that cellulase is synthesized at low levels during the early stages of excystment. No enzyme can be detected in the dormant cysts, the activity appears early and decreases when excystment is over. Combined action of all the 3 partially purified enzymes was demonstrated to alter cyst morphology.
