The effect was studied of parathyrin, calcitonin and cholecalciferol on articular, xiphoid and auricular cartilage in rabbits by means of 35S incorporation in vivo. The effect of parathyrin showed as a significant increase in 35S incorporation in the articular cartilage unlike calcitonin and vitamin D where there was no such effect. However, cholecalciferol apparently had a stabilizing effect on articular cartilage collagen. The other two types of cartilage remained unaffected by the osteotropic agents used; incorporation of 35S was each time much less than in articular cartilage.
