A bypass shunt with its appropriate clamps was previously introduced by Javid for use in carotid endarterectomy. This endarterectomy shunt can be used as a cholangiogram catheter because it can be introduced into the cystic duct and clamped securely in place. Because it was not originally designed with this purpose in mind, its distal end is often too large to be used in smaller sized cystic ducts. To facilitate its use, the distal diameter of the Javid shunt was decreased from 3.5-1.25 mm, and the distal Javid clamp was modified to accommodate this decreased size.
