A method was developed for Ca-ATP exposure of the intraorgan microcirculatory bed based on the selective precipitation of Pi, separated from ATP by Ca2+. Subsequently the product of the reaction transformed into a black lead sulfide. The method produced precise contrast exposure of the vascular-capillary network in the majority of cat organs in thick sections and membranes. A significant advantage of the method was the capacity for simultaneous and differentiating study of venous and arterial beds. Arteries stood out in preparations due to coloration of their smooth-muscle cells.
