In children in Sri Lanka, Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica cause a great deal of morbidity. Malaria is a notifiable disease. There were 2 cases of falciparum malaria during 1976 to 77 but vivax malaria is more common. There were no fatalities. Monthly incidences of malaria are tabulated. Among the intestinal parasites found in Sri Lanka, Ascaris lumbricoides, Necator americanus and Trichuris trichiura are the most common helminths.
