Development of the Thai Knee Osteoarthritis Screening Questionnaire (Thai-KOA-SQ) in Kanleurng Sub-District, Nakronpanom Province

To develop a simple questionnaire to use for screening Thai people for knee osteoarthritis (OA). Subjects' characteristics and data covering all known risk factors for OA were collected from a sample of villagers at Kanleurng Sub-District, Nakronpanom Province. Hip, knee, and finger radiographs were taken from all subjects (n = 146) to diagnose OA. Multiple logistic regression was used to select the items contained in the questionnaire. A ROC curve was used to define the best cut-off point and distinguish between OA and non-OA. Three factors were identified as being associated with knee OA and were included in a questionnaire. The Thai-KOA-SQ included questions about knee pain, age and body mass index (BMI). The questionnaire has 79.2% sensitivity, 78.4% specificity and 85.1% for the area under the ROC curve. This questionnaire should be validated in a large group of people, in order to be further developed as the screening questionnaire for knee OA in the general Thai population.
