Estimation of serum haptoglobin levels by using agarose gel electrophoresis

A simple semiquantitative method to estimate the total haptoglobins in serum is suggested. Use of agarose hastens the electrophoretic separation of haptoglobin-Hb and Hb bands. Modified peroxidase stain is used for the permanent staining of the bands. Haptoglobin levels in the sera of 56 normal subjects were estimated and reported.
