Tubal sterilization with the silicone "Falope Ring" procedure

100 women, the great majority of whom were overweight and had suffered previous gynecological operations and disruptions, such as abortion (60%), laparotomic intervention (25%), and genital infection (18%) were sterilized with the Falope ring. 98 of the operations were performed by laparoscopy and 2 by culdotomy. These instruments were used to apply the small silicone ring, which possesses a high degree of elasticity. Only 2 of the operations failed, due to using a ring too great in diameter. 5 cases of transection occurred for the same reason, without any serious consequences. All of the patients recovered quickly from the operation with no serious side effects. Postoperative hysterographic examinations showed that both tubes were properly closed in all cases. Out of 648 subsequent cycles, no pregnancy has occurred and only 5 have complained of any pain or discomfort. The reversibility of this operation, which has been claimed to be 40% effective, is seriously doubted, due to tissue anastomosis.
