The ability of thermophilic fungi to grow at high temperatures (50-80.degree. C) is based on their physiological and biochemical properties, including their protein synthesizing system. Literature on the characteristics and conditions for the optimal activity of cellulases, proteases, amylases, lipases, phosphodiesterases and lactase from thermophilic fungi is reviewed. These fungi may have possible industrial value as a source of these enzymes.
