A 5-yr follow-up was conducted on 235 patients discharged from hospital after acute myocardial infarction. The highest mortality (9.8%) was in the 1st yr after onset of myocardial infarction, and diminished in the next 4 yr to 3.5-7% (mean 5%). The highly progressed age, heart failure and hypertension were great handicaps in prognosis.
