A sample of 204 schoolchildren 5-8 years old was obtained from 8 primary schools of the municipal corporation of Delhi and also from a public school. The corporation schoolchildren were from the low socio-economic group while those from the public school were from the higher group. Most of the public schoolchildren were adequately fed and those from the corporation school mostly malnourished. Incidence of infection in normally nourished children was 26.3% compared to 51.8% for the malnourished. The incidence of infection increased with fall in living standard.
