The method described involved the introduction of duodenal marker substances that allow a reproducible measurement of total duodenal output and the introduction of biliary marker substances that allow the calculation of the effective liver excretion from the duodenal output in man and animals. It is based on a perfusion of the duodenum with a mixture of amino acids in man and animals.
