Significant inhibition of mouse stem cell migration from the bone marrow area, screened during irradiation, occurred with a hypercorticoid condition produced by prolonged action of ACTH injected in various doses. In considerable suppression of stem cell migration, a reduction of erythropoietic potency of the colony-forming units was noted with a relative increase of their capacity for differentiation in the direction of granulopoiesis. The level of the colony-forming cells circulating in the blood decreased sharply with high endogenous glucocorticoid concentrations in the blood plasma of nonirradiated mice.
