In patients with acute duodenal ulcer values for histidine, proline, alanine, glycine, valine, tyrosine and threonine in blood serum were significantly and those for methionine, phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine and arginine were slightly decreased. Values for serine and glutamic acid were normal and lysine and aspartic acid were high. Mixtures of amino acids as protein hydrolysates, individual amino acids such as histidine, methionine, glutamic acid and phenylalanine, and vitamin B-6 are recommended as part of the treatment of patients with ulcers.
