Some ecological and zoogeographical aspects of the flea Nosopsyllus consimilis (Wagner) occurring in Romania

The biology (biotypes and mammalian hosts) and distribution of Nosopsyllus consimilis (Wagn.) in Romania are described from field collections in 1959-71. Over 230 examples were taken on 10 species of small mammals in 17 places. The association of N. consimilis with 9 other species of fleas on common hosts is given. N. consimilis preferred the biotypes of steppe (Dobrogea) and meadow (Danube Plain), and although found on various murids and microtids preferred Apodemus sylvaticus and Microtus arvalis. It is a Eurasiatic species, the range in Romania extending from the east to the south-west and the Carpathians forming a barrier.
