Extrapyramidal manifestations in cerebral malaria

A rare manifestation of cerebral Plasmodium falciparum infection was seen in a man in Sri Lanka. After a history of malaria 6 months earlier he developed intermitten fever and was found to have encephalopathy with acute extrapyramidal symptoms. He was cured by treatment with chloroquine, primaquine and phenobarbitone.
