Feeding of P. terraenovae in the laboratory for 24 h with 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.5% solutions of hempa in 10% sugar solution reduced the viability of the eggs laid by the females by 78%-100%. Feeding of the flies of the parental generation with the chemosterilant reduced the survival rate of the progeny: with 0.1% hempa by 12.2%, with 0.3% hempa by 3.6% as compared with 72.4% in controls. Under natural conditions, free feeding of P. terraenovae on baites with the chemosterilant (1% hempa with decomposing meat and 1% hempa in 30% sugar solution) reduced the viability of the eggs of the flies caught on the baits by 90% and 55.2%, respectively, which appeared to be due to the degree of attractiveness of the baits and the amount of the consumed chemosterilant.
