Analysis of the sensitivity of a direct agglutination test for the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis

A direct agglutination test for the diagnosis of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii was applied to 41 sera from 36 patients and compared with an immunofluorescent test (IFAT). 33 sera were positive by both tests; 3 were positive by IFAT but not by agglutination; 4 were negative by IFAT but positive by agglutination and one was negative by both tests. It is considered that in the light of present knowledge, it would be inadvisable to use the agglutination reaction for the routine detection of infection with T. gondii.
