Ewes, naturally infected with Coxiella burnetii, were vaccinated s/c, in the 7th week of pregnancy, with formalin-killed phase I organisms (see VB 46, abst. 3602). A 4- to 16-fold increase in the titre of phase II CF antibodies was found in 4 of 6 vaccinated ewes on day 21. Vaccination prevented the appearance of C. burnetii in the milk.
