Use of dish-washing liquids for bathing: a cause of generalized pruritus

Generalized pruritus is a common manifestation of the atopic state. In this case the diagnosis of contact dermatitis was made based on the prompt cessation of pruritus with discontinuation of the use of dishwashing liquid for bathing. This patient's contact dermatitis and atopy may be related insofar as atopic children are more readily subject to irritation from soaps and grease solvents (such as dish-washing liquids).
