Pregnancy complicated by cancer of the cervix--a study of 90 cases

Cancer of the cervix complicating pregnancy accounted for 4.7% of all cancers of the cervix. The patients in the present material were about 10 yr younger as compared to their Western counterparts. In contrast to Western reports on this subject, the majority of the patients were seen in the late stages of the disease. About 90% of the patients delivered via the natural route and no increased morbidity or mortality was noted. A comparison of treatment results between the general (nonpregnant) group and the cancer of the cervix in pregnancy group showed better 2 yr survival figures in favor of the latter. Vaginal delivery is not harmful to the mother and does not adversely affect the prognosis in pregnant patients with cancer of the cervix.
