Hiring the mentally retarded in foodservice systems

An overview of an Economics Laboratory training program is provided. It is directed to mentally retarded individuals who are educable to the extend required for a number of relatively simple and routine tasks in the foodservice industry, such as dishroom assignments. The need for a more stable work force was the factor that prompted the program. The mentally handicapped trainees have proven to be dependable and conscientious workers. Sources of additional information on hiring the trained mentally retarded are named.
