Cryptococcosis of the central nervous system

The cases of 3 patients (2 female and 1 male), aged 12-16 yr, with Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis are presented. One patient was treated successfully with 5-fluorocytosine and 2 with a combination of 5-fluorocytosine and amphotericin B at doses lower than normal to reduce toxicity. The period of hospitalization was also reduced with success.
