The relationship of erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase to blood selenium in swine

In three experiments using 54 pigs deficient in vitamin E, and supplemented with alpha -tocopherol and/or Se, a close correlation was found between erythrocytic glutathione peroxidase and blood Se values. The two variables almost paralleled each other from week to week in individual animals. Separate vitamin E supplementation had no effect on erythrocytic glutathione peroxidase activity.
