The January 17, 1975, law was adopted under the assumption that it would be modified according to demographic or medical changes after 5 years. This author criticizes many aspects of the law as decorative and failing to protect the real needs of patients properly. He claims that the law fails to provide an adequate alternative to abortion, that the 7-day waiting period is too long and serves only to advance pregnancies, that allowing doctors "to refuse" creates a rift in the medical profession. He says that the law has not helped reduce abortions or increase the effectiveness of family planning. The law must be revised with reasonable limits, otherwise abortion will be accepted as a matter of personal convenience.
