A review of hydatid cases registered in Chile in 1970-74 revealed 3,734 new cases but the rate of infection/100,000 people for the country had declined from 8.4 in 1970 to 6.7 in 1974. The results are analysed by province, age and sex. Of 3,720 cases, 2,030 (54.6%) were in men and 1,690 (45.4%) in women. 77.2% were aged between 10 and 59 years. The location of the cysts is tabulated. There was a 5% mortality rate and 60 to 70% of patients underwent surgery.
