The influence of strongly basic uremic peptide on liberation of lipoprotein lipase activity from human adipose cells

From the dialysis fluid from patients with chronic renal failure who had peritoneal dialysis, a strongly basic uremic peptide was isolated, and its influence on liberation of lipoprotein lipase activity from human adipose cells was examined. The peptide had no effect on liberation of lipoprotein lipase activity, but inhibited its stimulation by insulin. Stimulation of the process of liberation caused by heparin was unaltered in the presence of uremic peptide. The results of studies on the influence on uremic peptide on Mg++-ATPase and concentration of ATP in adipose cells, and glucose concentration in the incubation medium suggest that the uremic peptide inhibits liberation of lipoprotein lipase activity by blocking the activating influence of insulin on metabolism of adipose cells.
