An adaptable system for timed aseptic sampling and storage of microbial cultures

Equipment is described which permits aseptic sampling of microbial cultures and the subsequent controlled temperature storage of these samples. The system is fully automated, has a flexible sampling program (10 min to 2 days interval between samples) and a capacity of up to three hundred 15 ml samples. It is inexpensive to construct and sufficiently flexible to permit direct integration with standard monitoring and/or automated analytical systems. [The system was tested using Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, Chromobacterium lividum and Aspergillus oryzae.].
