The phenomenon of rebound contraction was characterized by a secondary contraction initiated at the basal line level as a response to transmural stimulation and was studied in the intestinal fibers of the guinea pig ileum of controlled ages that were subjected to vegetative of possible inhibitory drugs was tested, along with blocking and potential-increasing agents, to observe any response modifications in the course of development and to observe certain interactions related to the action mechanism. The rebound contraction can be produced in ileum fibers of adult guinea pigs, but this phenomenon cannot be observed in neonatal ileum fibers nor in taenia coli of either age group.
