Mixed bacterial and fungal infection was produced in rabbits. The animals were infected i.v. with a mixture of C. albicans and pathogenic Staphylococcus. The clinical picture of the disease, allergic, serologic and pathomorphologic changes arising in the animal organism were studied. The agents behave synergistically, intensifying manifestation and intensity of the pathologic process produced by either separately. Mixed infection causes serious vascular disturbances that are absent or considerably less developed in the organs of animals infected only with Candida. These disturbances are probably due to the pathogenic Staphylococcus. Size, localization and development of the vascular damages and subsequent reaction of the stroma are dependent upon their microcirculation.
