Report on the use of urokinase in acute myocardial infarction

In 53 patients, 2 cases were found in which it was possible to do coronary angiograms before and after treatment with urokinase. These seem to demonstrate the opening of previously occluded arteries, and because no other cases were reported which show a similar picture. These cases were selected for angiography during the course of an acute myocardial infarction, following strict criteria which had been previously established. The known risk of angiography was balanced against the possible information that could be secured by such a procedure. The return to patency of previously occluded coronary vessels using urokinase is demonstrated.
