Yeasts were found in small amounts in only 8-9% of subjects healthy for practical purposes and of those without marked organic changes, with Trichosporon cutaneum, Candida albicans and Rhodotorula rubra predominating. Yeasts occurred in 70% of patients with inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, the commonest being R. rubra, T. cutaneum and C. spp. Yeasts were isolated from 70% of patients with stomach cancer, T. cutaneum being the commonest. Other spp. isolated from this group were T. pullulans, R. rubra, R. glutinis var. glutinis, Cryptococcus albidus var. albidus, C. albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. sp., Torulopsis sp., Saccharomyces telluris and S. cerevisiae.
