The anti-inflammatory activity of a number of steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents was correlated against carrageenin-induced edema in albino rats with their plasma fibrinolytic activity. The order of anti-inflammatory potency of these agents was indomethacin > flufenamic acid > hydrocortisone > oxyphenbutazone > acetylsalicylic acid > amidopyrine > glycyrrhetic acid > phenacetin sodium salicylate. All these agents, except glycyrrhetic acid, prevented the increase in the plasma fibrinolytic activity associated with carrageenin-induced edema. No correlation could be made between the magnitudes of anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrinolytic activities of these agents.
