Endemic genu valgum is prevalent in some parts of South India, among communities exposed to high levels of fluoride in drinking water. Studies were carried out in 3 S Indian States.sbd.Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Construction of large water reservoirs in areas where fluorosis is endemic is related to the genesis of this condition. Inadequacy of dietary Ca per se cannot explain all the features of this syndrome. Changes in the trace metal composition of food and water appear to influence the prevalence of this syndrome.
