In mice there is a marked interrelation between nourishment and age and yeastlike flora present in the digestive tract. There is also a yeast-like natural flora which colonizes the digestive tract of poultry. The following genera were isolated: Hansenula, Pichia, Torulopsis, Sporobolomyces and Candida. This flora is not pathogenic and was not found spontaneously in the stool of poultry < 20 days old. It was possible to infect poultry with the isolated yeastlike flora. The inoculated yeasts remained fixed in definite areas of the digestive tract.
