A review of the literature on the biological properties of the Chinese and Formosan strains of Schistosoma japonicum revealed that except for primate susceptibility, differences between the 2 strains are much less than when compared to the Japanese or Philippine strain. The biggest factor influencing the biology of this parasite appears to be the host species in which it develops.
