Distribution of phytopathogenic bacteria in the rhizosphere of some agricultural plants

The pathogenicity of 1133 strs. of bacteria from the rhizosphere of crop plants was tested. Pectolytic bacteria were represented mainly by the fluorescent group of Pseudomonas and by Flavobacterium and Aerobacter. Highly specialized phytopathogenic bacteria are not constant constituents of the rhizosphere complex of bean, lupin, Sudan grass, wheat, tomato, cucumber, carrot or beet. Ecologically connected with the plant rhizosphere are P. xanthochlora, P. marginalis, pathogenic forms of Erwinia carotovora and, according to the literature, Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
