The high-performance liquid chromatographic separation of p-aminobenzoic acid and 3 of its metabolites, N-acetyl-p-aminobenzoic acid, p-aminohippuric acid and N-acetyl-p-aminobenzoic acid, p-aminohippuric acid and N-acetyl-p-aminohippuric acid on an anionic silica gel micro-Partisil column, is described. Human serum and urine specimens can be analyzed directly without pretreatment, with all 4 compounds eluting within 12 min. The increased simplicity of the method, the lower operating pressures and less sophisticated instrumentation provide a routine test procedure for the clinical laboratory.
